It really depends on what you want to experience. Fitness classes are traditionally thought of being taught in a gym setting. What most people do not realize is that although an instructor in a gym is a fitness specialist, they may not be a movement specialist.
Dance and Gymnastic studios have been offering and conducting fitness training for hundreds of years. Even before the private workout gyms became popular. Thousands of families have taken their children to studios in the past for "more activity and exercise" for generations and the parents have discovered that they can actually get a fitness class for themselves that works not only on their fitness level, but also on coordination,grace, self esteem, balance, spatial awareness, muscle memory and much more.
Fitness classes at a studio offer their clients more when it comes to a class. They offer a breakdown of movements that are developmental and easier to understand and follow,so not only do you learn the steps, but you learn the right posture and carriage so that you do the steps safely. Studio fitness classes can offer you smaller classes because they limit the size and you will not find 20 to 30 people in a class sweating and straining to see the instructor and follow them. Studio fitness classes allows for more one on one with the instructor so it is almost like your own personal trainer on site that is willing to visit with you and guide you with out the extra cost of a private session.
Fitness specialists at gyms may actually split their time between gyms, conducting classes at more than one gym. It is for that reason that there can be a turn over of instructors in gyms very often. Fitness instructors at studios are generally contracted to only instruct at one location, thus eliminating an instructor rushing out the door to another location to teach. That is why you have more one on one opportunities with the fitness specialists at studios. They are there for the clients of that studio.
Some fitness styles are truly best suited for dance studios. Fitness programs that are more dance than anything else are a good example. Ballroom and latin dance steps can be tricky and dancing them on carpeted floors really should be avoided at all costs. A dance floor that is considered "sprung" is the best choice of floor because the offer a surface that moves with you and is gentler on the joints of the knees and hips. Studios also then add a dance vinyl over the wood flood that the offers better surface for pivoting, turning and sliding, with out falling down.
Sometimes you may pay more to take fitness classes in a studio setting than a gym. This is because gyms are set up to get as many people into a class as they can. They make their profit from numbers in hopes you will purchase more of their ggym package that is not offered in the general membership.Studios will be looking at the total experience for the client in the class, offering more expertise, better flooring, digital sound systems, smaller classes and a personalized approach at a group rate.
So if you choose to take fitness classes such as Zumba, Ballroom, Yoga, Pilates, Jazzercise, Toning or the next fitness craze, be sure to check out all options as far as locations and what they truly have to offer you in achieving your fitness levels. Some of our classes are not scheduled weekly. Be sure to check the weekly calendar to see what classes are currently being conducted. A brief description of classes that we offer:
Bums- An intense work out that targets the core muscles and glutes. Some dance steps but mostly toning those difficult areas ofour bodies. Suggest loose clothing or strtch pants and tanks. Shoes need to be supportive and clean bottom (not a shoe you wear everyday) to be able o move on our specialized vinyl floor.
Pilates- Mat exercises that help strengthen and elongate the body and muscles. Dancers have used Pilates for years for rehab and strengthening the body. Stretch pants and tanks or loose clothing to be able to work out on the floor in. Bare feet or a soft slipper like a ballet slipper.
Yoga- Focus on breath and gentle movements that can be relaxing as well as a good workout. Yoga wear or loose fitting clothing that will not move over your face when down on the floor (for safety). Bare feet. you may bring your own yaga mat if you wish.
ZUMBA- A blending of latin steps blended with belly dancing, reggatone and hip hop. We have been offering ZUMBA since 2007! Stretch pants, sweats, loose clothing that cn breathe becaus your are going to sweat in this class!
BalleCore- A class that blends Yoga, Pilates and Ballet. Most exercise are performed standing or on the floor. There are no dance steps to this class because the focus is on toning and building core strength. Clothing should be either form fitting and stretchy or loose fitting enough to move on the floor. Bare feet.
Hula Hoop Dance- It is fun, and an outrageous work out! Works best with our weighted hoops, but even a regular hoop can be used until you decide if laughing and moving is what will make a difference in your day! Clothing should be snug and stretchy so to not hinder the hoop work. Shoes need to be clean bottomed (not a street use shoe) and supportive.
Dance Your Booty Off- this is a ballroom style class that will have your heart pounding with excitement and exercise! Steps learned in this class can be used for any dance event. A partner is needed for this class. Be ready to feel the legs and bottom get a big workout! Shoes need to be soft soled and a bit slick for movement.No hard heeled shoes for men or women allowed due to our specialized dance floor. A dance shoe is recommended.Clothing should be loose and comfortable to movein but not baggy where is hinders the movements. Limited enrollment weekly. Sign up early!
Notice****** Because we believe that our clients are very important and want the best experience, you must register and then book the classes you want. Please never drop in. Because if no one has signed up for the class a teacher will not be brought in for it. Our fitness classes are tailored to our clients. If at the last minute you want to see if you can get into the class, just call the office and we can give you the status of that class.Be sure to check the schedule weekly because sometimes "life just happens" and we have to change the schedule a bit.

If you have tried all other fitness dance and toning classes and found them painful, boring and no quick results, YOU MUST TRY ZUMBA! Zumba is a fun fitness dance styles that offers cardio, flexibility and toning just when you thought you were there to have fun!
Latin dance steps that are easy and fun plus pumping music makes this class popular with all ages. It is interval training at it's best and we highly recommend it to you.
From time to time, we even have a fun special offer concerning Zumba. So be sure to ask! There are no excuses to not get fit now! Now is the time to ZUMBA!
STR-OGA is our own blending of gentle stretching and yoga. Coupled with great breathing exercises, this class may just help you to melt away the stress of a busy week. Classes are 30 minutes long and participants move along at their own pace. A class where the pounding music does not play, but offers a calming environment. A great class to take right after a fun ZUMBA class on our unlimited plan.
