We offer guitar lessons for children and adults. Although the youngest age for starting guitar lessons is generally between 7 and 8 years, some students as young as 5 years have been successful with our program. Strength in the hands to hold down the strings is needed. The key to successful lessons is also dependent on the proper size of guitar and we recommend that parents visit with us and a teacher prior to purchasing a guitar for the right fit.
Students in our classes learn to read music and child students spend time in our computer lab working with music theory software for a better understanding. As they advance on the software and their understanding, they can then work on our music writing software as well. Our guitar lessons also incorporate listening skills, rhythm and tempo, as well as chords.
We offer university trained music teachers for your lessons. These teachers understand how to teach children as well as adults. They also understand the value of learning to read music and learn theory. The majority of our teachers are not currently members of bands, so that our students do not have to work around the musicians "gigs" with their lessons. Consistancy is important to success in class.
Private lessons are preferred when learning to play the guitar. But to give the student a chance to learn to play with others, we offer a spring semester of "Stage Band". This is another class to register for. The value in the class is that your child's abilities to play are not for solo only. It opens up a whole new learning experience for them, and at recital, they will have the opportunity to not only play solo but with a band as well. Our private classes start at 30 minutes of one-on-one with the teacher and can then move to 45 and even 60 minute classes. Adults with busy schedules have an opportunity to take 30, 45 or 60 minute classes depending on their interest.
Group lessons are offered and some students love the teamwork and social aspect of playing with others. Some students thrive in this setting. Some do not without the private classes. For this reason, we offer all of our private guitar students the opportunity to take group classes at the same time , for a discounted rate. Group guitar class is limited to 8 in a class and must have an enrollment of 4 to begin the class. Those taking group classes can advance on to private instruction and Stage Band.
