Music Class Descriptions
Our private instruction students receive a 30, 45 or 60 minute private lesson, depending on student ability level, with a university trained teacher as well as a 15 minute to 25 minute music theory session in our computer lab. This allows students special time with a professional that knows and understands how to deliver a productive lesson for greater learning and time for exploration on their own using great music theory software. Our music rooms do have a window for parent viewing and to help the student to become comfortable during the class.
Group instruction, such as our keyboard teams or group guitar, also receive a fun and highly trained teacher. Group instruction is perfect for the younger student and older students find that they too enjoy the camaraderie of learning an instrument in the class. Music theory lab may or may not be part of the lesson plan.
In the near future, we will be offering "college prep" level classes for those who are working towards scholarship auditions. These classes will be offered in a variety of instruments and will be taught by highly qualified teachers. Be sure to check back for more information regarding these classes.
For adults who have a little bit of a musical background, we now offer FLEX Classes. These classes are for those who wish to fine tune their skills to a higher level, or just review a few things. FLEX classes are set up as an "as needed or booked" situation and do not meet on a regular basis. This way, busy adults can take a class once, twice, three time or even five times in a particular month. FLEX classes are limited to time and teacher availability. Flex classes must be booked no less than 48 hours in advance. Call our office at 256-3262 for more information.
Piano Our academy offers pivate lessons for beginner through advanced students of all ages. Lessons are generally 30 minutes, with the teacher, in length and 45 minute lessons are available for the more advanced students. Students ages five years and up also receive 15 minutes of theory in our computer lab with specialize software that teaches theory and music writing. Theory is important to learning to play an instrument and students do spend time with the teacher learning music theory as well. While the instruction is booked as private, a parent can sit in on a lesson once a monthe to be assured of their child's progress. Piano students are encouraged to participate in the Seiling Music Festival and Tri-State Festival. Piano students do take part in a low stress recital twice a year in front of family and friends. The December recital is more informal and small. The spring recital is on a stage and in front of an audiance. Great care is taken to prepare the child for success on the stage and the teacher can remain on the stage with the student if very young , or a beginner, for that extra support.

Keyboard Teams Learning to play the digital keyboard can be great fun. We offer classes in teams of 6 for a wonderful learning experience of how to play the digital keyboard. Some parents find this a great way to introduce their child to piano skills and later select private piano instruction for their child. Students have a great time learning with a group of friends. We are happy to set up a keyboard team for homeschoolers or just your own group of six to eight friends. Inquire about this by calling our office at 580-256-3262.
Guitar Beginner to advanced guitar is now available for students of all ages! Students will need an acoustical guitar to participate in the class. Instruction is a private 1/2 hr class and does include chord and learning to read notes. Students age 5 yrs and older receive an extra 15 minutes prior to their class in our computer lab working with music theory software as well as guitar palying software and music writing software. Students as youngas 4 years can learn to play the guitar with our systems.
Voice The sweetness of a well trained voice is hard to resist. Some voices have the power to bring emotions to the top and tears to the eyes. At Woodward Academy of Music, private voice training is available for students of all ages. Our voice classes are conducted by trained professionals. We offer a young student voice ensemble, trios, duet and solo training. Voice ensembles are available to homeschool groups of 6 or more.
Trumpet The trumpet is one of the most favorite brass instruments. Trumpet is an important instrument in many different types of bands, including drum and bugle corp. We have a teacher on staff who specializes in brass instrument instruction from beginner through advanced. Classes are a half hour private instruction. Locally most children do not start learning to play the trumpet until middle school. Starting the trumpet in private lessons prior to middle school will help you child to feel more successful when performing in front of their peers. Students as young as grade school can easily learn to play the trumpet. And adults that wanted to learn trumpet but were never given the vhance are welcome in class as well. Students will spend time in our computer lab working on music theory software and music writing software. Saxophone From a "honkin' good time" to the smooth sounds of Jazz. The saxophone has always been a great instrument in the woodwind family! Saxophone is fun to play in a marching or jazz band, as well as a solo instument. Children as well as adults will love playing the saxophone. No matter if you are in a school band, a homeschool group or just as an individual, lessons on the saxophone can be fun and rewarding. Take lessons today and learn to play the saxophone!
Saxophones are available in our rental program or rent 2 own program. For a low monthly fee you will receive a new or like new instrument to learn on.
Trombone The Trombone is a major instrument in marching and jazz bands, It's soulful sounds brings depth to music and is a favorite of students in school bands. The flash of the brass and the deep tones adds excitement to any music piece. We offer private instruction and music theory for trombonists. Not all band directors have the chance to work with every individual student in school bands. That is where our private instruction is of its most value. Jr high to college bands agree, they would not have the big band sound without the trombone! Book your class today!

Clarinet The clairnet is one of the most popular single reed instruments. A popular instrument for school bands, the instrument has the capability of delivering a sweet lyrical sound for classical sounds, to the more staccato sounds for big band and marching bands. The clarinet is also an instrument of choice for playing solos and in ensembles. Most of the time, students start on the clarinet in middle school, bust students as young as elementary school can leanr the clarinet.

Flute The Flute, in music, is the generic term for such wind instruments as the fife, theflageolet, the panpipes, the piccolo, and the recorder. The tone of all flutes is produced by an air stream directed against an edge, producing eddies that set up vibrations in the air enclosed in the attached tube.The flue is a favorite instrument on school bands and even orchestras. Children as young as grade school can learn the flute and it is especially a favorite for adults to learn as well. Learning the flute not only builds confidence but also breath control. We offer "Magic Flute Ensemble classes" for the younger students to learn on recorders as well as flute ensemble and private classes for older students.

Violin We offer violin lessons for ages 4 yrs and up. The violin is a wonderful instrument for young children to start on since it comes in different sizes to fit the student. Violin instruction is offered in prviate classes as well as a young student ensemble class. Music theory is included in the lesson and those taking private classes will spend time in our computer lab learning music theory and writing. Teacher is a university trained instructor.
